About Me
Ryan Stanza is a 5th year Architectural Engineering student at The Pennsylvania State University who is in the works of completing his B.A.E./M.A.E. degree with structural emphasis. Upon graduation in December 2019, Ryan will achieve his E.I.T. status.
During his Summer internship with CH2M (now Jacobs), Ryan applied skills taught in the classroom and deepened his structural engineering knowledge by designing and detailing steel, concrete, and masonry structures. By using ASCE 7-10 in conjunction with AISC 360 and ACI 318-14, Ryan was able to determine the appropriate dead, live, wind, and seismic loads and design the corresponding gravity and lateral resistance systems for the structures. The list of structures he has worked on includes: steel platforms for industrial mechanical equipment, steel column base plates and anchor bolts, concrete vibration isolation slabs, concrete slab-on-grades and footings supporting columns with large uplift forces, and load-bearing masonry shear walls.
Aside from his current coursework, Ryan also assists Dr. Ryan Solnosky in conducting research for a comparative performance wall study that analyzes different wall assemblies’ carbon content, cost, and sustainability across various cities in the United States. In addition, Ryan is also an executive board member for the Structural Engineers Association Penn State chapter. His duties as secretary include reviewing presentations, tracking meeting minutes, and assisting in the travel arrangements for conferences that the organization attends.
Outside of the classroom Ryan enjoys running, cooking, playing guitar, and playing video games with friends.
